The World Register of Dams (WRD) has been created by ICOLD in 1958 and is maintained ever since. It is due to the work of the Technical Committee for the Register (see Acknowledgments) you can find a synthesis of the main findings of the WRD, together with some of the statistics it permitted. The way to use the data basis is presented here. You can also find the history of the WRD, its creation and the transformations it endured. To search the WRD, you need an access code, which can be bought here.

The WRD is the best available data basis on dams in the world and we are constantly striving to better it. But it is relying exclusively on the data furnished by ICOLD National Committees. We therefore cannot ensure its perfection. ICOLD cannot be held responsible for any problem arising from incomplete or incorrect data.
